Vaidyaratnam medicines are primarily herbal extracts as stipulated in ancient Ayurveda scriptures, while the mode of administration can be either by external application and / or internal ingestion.
Treatment is of 3 types i.e. Shodhana, Shamana & Brihmana
Application of oil over body while gentle pressure is applied in seven different postures. It prevents Ageing, Fatigue and effective in treating Degenerative Erthritis, Emaciation, Low Back Ache, Sprain, Cervical and Lumbar Spondylosis
Medicated powder is applied all over the body with pressure. Effective in Obesity, Diabetes Mellitus, Neuropathies etc.
Luke warm dhanyamla is poured all over the body. Effective in Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Bemiplegia, Obesity, Osteoarthritisetc.
Dry type of sudation in which sand is used to enhance sudation. Effective in Rheumatic Fever, Plantar Fascitis, and Rheumatoid Arthritis etc.
Dry / snigdha type of sudation in which medicated powders are used to enhance sudation. Effective in Arthritis, Sciatica, Neurological Disorders, etc.
Snigdha type of sudation in which medicated leaves & powders are used to enhance sudation. It relieves low back ache, muscle cramps, joint disorders, etc.
Snigdha type of sudation in which Jambeera Fruits & Powders are used to enhance sudation. Effective in Frozen Shoulder, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Plantar Fascitisy, Obesity, etc.
Pizhichil is the procedure in which warm medicated oil is poured over the body and sudation is enhanced. It is highly effective in degenerative and neurological disorders. This can also be done in healthy individuals as a part of rejuvenation.
Serving both, as curative and rejuvenating, this can be considered one of the finest therapies which invigorates the body issues. Effective in diseases of the Nervous System, Spinal Cord and Muscle Degeneration, Cerebral Palsy, Emaciation, Chronic Rheumatism etc.
This is a type of snigdha sweda. Warm paste of Shashtika is applied over the body and swedana is enhanced. This is very effective in General Debility, Motor Neuron Diseases, Parkinson ’s Disease, Paralysis, Cerebral Palsy, Degenerative Diseases etc.
A procedure in which various liquids (taila, kwatha, medicated milk) are poured over the forehead in a continuous stream and then allowing it flow over the scalp for a specific period from a specific height. Effective in Neurological Disorders, Stress, Depression and Stroke etc.
A variety of sirodhara, where medicated buttermilk is poured in a continuous stream over the forehead. Indicated in Psoriasis, Mental Disorders, and Headache etc.
A type of moordhni taila in which a cotton cloth soaked in medicated oil is places on scalp for a specific time. It can be performed in various conditions affecting CNS, Hair, Dermatological Conditions of Scalp etc.
A procedure in which medicated oil is allowed to stay over the head for the prescribed time. Effective in Neurological Diseases, Psychological Diseases, Imparts Strength to Brain, etc.
This is a Kerala specialty therapy that helps mitigate the impact of diseases affecting the head. Amalaki paste with butter milk is applied over the scalp for a specific time. It Enhances Coldness to the Head and Pacifies Pitta Dosha.
A type of sudation therapy in which the patient is allowed to sit / lie in a tub containing medicated dravya. Effective in treating Lower Back Ache, Anal Fissure & Fistula, Pilonidal Sinus, Genital Diseases, Infertility, etc.
Type of bandage were medicated powder is made into a paste by adding amla drava and applied / tied over the affected area. Effective in Arthritis of Knee, Low Back Pain, Tennis Elbow, Plantar Fascitis, Bursitis etc.
This treatment regimen consists of a fivefold procedure meant to eliminate the vitiated doshas from the body. They are Vamana (Emesis), Virechana (Purgation), Niroohavasti (Decoction Enema), Anuvasanavasti (Oil Enema) and Nasya (Instillation of medicine through nostrils).
These procedures effectively purges the body of toxic materials left by disorders, poor nutrition and environmental changes. Repeated diseases affect individuals because of one’s repeated dietary indiscretions, poor exercise patterns, sedentary lifestyles and genetic predisposition. The waste matter called ama in Ayurveda is evacuated from the body through Panchakarma.
Prior to commencing Panchakarma, every individual should be prepared by internal as well as external lubrication and sudation therapy. Later on, depending on the dosha involved, any one of following Panchakarma treatments is given.
Snehapana is an important procedure before sodhana therapy. The idea behind the use of snehapana is to bring the vitiated dosas to a suitable state so that they can be expelled out easily. The treatment includes the oral intake Of Medicated Ghee / Oil for prescribed time without mixing with food articles.
Swedana is done to liquefy the vitiated dosas which are spread throughout the body. Swedana relieves Stiffness, Heaviness and Coldness of the body.
In Emesis Therapy, vomitting is induced by oral administration of medicaments. Done early morning, especially for vitiated Kapha, Vamanam is effective in Bronchial Asthma, Psoriasis, Schizophrenia, Drug Addiction, Allergic Conditions, Epilepsy, PCOS, etc.
Most commonly employed Sodhana Therapy is Virechana. In this process, elimination of vitiated ‘pittadi dosha’ is done through administration of therapeutic purgatives in pittakala. It has got a lot of therapeutic benefits in disorders of GI Tract, Musculoskeletal Spectrum, Neurological disorders, etc.
The administration of medicaments via nasal route is called as Nasya. Mostly indicated in diseases of Head and Neck, Psychiatric Disorders, Cervical Spondylosis, some Gynaecological diseases, etc.
Here Medicated Oil / Ghee is injected through the rectal opening. Effective in Disorders of Musculoskeletal System, Nervous System, GI disorders, etc.
A type of elimination therapy in which various medicaments like Honey, Rock Salt, Ghee / Oil, Medicated Paste and Decoction are mixed thoroughly before being administered through rectal opening using a specially designed instrument. Effective in disorders of musculoskeletal system such as Lumbar Spondylosis, Sciatica, other Arthropathies, disorders of GI System, Neurological disorders, etc.
